Every thought, feeling, word, and deed generates a specific vibrational cause. That cause accumulates energy, compresses into lived experience, and returns — amplified — as your destiny.

🇾🇪 Eight Hundred Thousand Cut Off — Yemen's War Moves From the Airport to the Kitchen¶

Observed Cause

Yesterday this page recorded the war arriving at a Gulf airport and Washington answering with a departure order. In the day since, the same war has been measured at a different altitude — in a hospital ward in Aden, in the price of a tin of baby milk, and in a city cut off from the world. The United Nations says around 800,000 people can no longer receive lifesaving aid and more than 250,000 have been displaced since an informal ceasefire collapsed in the summer. Since then the Houthis have made a lightning advance along the Red Sea coast and have now completely cut off Taiz, Yemen's third-largest city, where the UN says civilians are "at grave risk" and lacking food because of soaring prices. The internationally-recognised government is fighting back with the help of Saudi air strikes (BBC, Orla Guerin reporting from Aden; UN).

The conflict is now legible in a single case, and the case is not unusual. Twins Raghad Hassan and her brother Raad were born prematurely seven weeks ago; when the Houthis reached their village in the Kahboub mountains in south-west Yemen, the family of seven — the shepherd father Bajash Ali Sagir Hassan and the mother Lina among them — fled on foot through bombing, missiles and drone attacks, walking three days toward Aden before a stranger drove them part of the way, arriving with the twins "just skin and bone". A doctor diagnosed severe acute malnutrition; Raad's ribs were visible and his chest heaving, and his father said the twins were fed twice a day but sometimes could only be given water after the war drove up the price of baby milk. A supervising nurse, Aisha Ragab, who had fled the war herself in 2018, settled the admissions problem by having the twins share a single bed: "so that we can save them" (BBC). Hunger did not arrive with this conflict, but it is spreading with it — and the airport war this page recorded yesterday is now one line in the same ledger: at least 21 people have been killed in Houthi attacks on Saudi airports since 1 October, including two at Dammam's King Fahd International Airport on Wednesday evening, a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident, with eight injured of five nationalities, after the 10 October missile strike on Riyadh's airport killed 13 and injured 308 (BBC; NYT).

🇸🇩 Forty-Three Hospitals, Fifty-Five Medics — the BBC Documents el-Fasher's Clinical Destruction¶

Observed Cause

Yesterday this page counted the dead in Kordofan and Abyei. Today the record moves from the market to the ward, and the finding is not a death toll but a method. A BBC investigation has found evidence that Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces systematically destroyed el-Fasher's healthcare system during their long siege and subsequent takeover of the city in Darfur a year ago: using sources who were on the ground, the BBC has documented details of at least 43 separate attacks on hospitals and healthcare sites between May 2024 and October 2025, some hit multiple times. In the period from April 2023 to October 2025 the BBC's data shows 120 medical workers injured, 55 killed, and 10 forcibly "disappeared" or abducted (BBC, Barbara Plett Usher and Mohamed Madi). The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, called the findings "deeply disturbing", saying that multiple RSF attacks on civilian infrastructure including health facilities were serious violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes. The health minister of the group's civilian-affiliated government, Dr Alaa Eldin Nugud, dismissed the allegations as propaganda and a deliberate attempt by the national army and its allies to smear the RSF's reputation (BBC).

The mechanism was stated plainly by the person who watched it. "The RSF [were] trying to evacuate the hospitals, to put them out of service because the health system is the cornerstone of any city or any state," said Dr Muhamed Suliman, a surgeon based in el-Fasher during the siege. "The RSF started hitting these areas so citizens have no longer any way to stay there. It was intense. It was deliberate. It was planned" (BBC). The chronology is the evidence: the Teaching Hospital, in the middle of the city, closed within weeks of the war's start in April 2023 and its operations moved to South Hospital, where services continued under power cuts and dwindling supplies; in late May and early June 2024 the South Hospital was shelled several times as fighters pushed in from the east, on a day when staff operated on 16 injured patients in a crowded compound holding the city's only surgical service; medics at the Saudi Hospital performed a Caesarean by phone light on the day it was bombed (BBC). The symmetry argument is already in use: both sides have been accused of attacks on health facilities, and in March 2026 the World Health Organization condemned the bombing of al-Daein hospital in RSF-held eastern Darfur, which killed dozens and forced the site to close, with Sudan's military believed to have carried out the drone strikes and denying responsibility — while the WHO described el-Fasher as "one of the clearest and most severe examples of the wider impact of the conflict on health care in Sudan", and UN investigators have reported that the fighting there bore the "hallmarks of genocide" (BBC; WHO; UN investigators).

It is the choice — by the RSF's command, whether a hospital is a target of war or a protected object whose capture is enough; by Sudan's army and its allies, whether their own strikes on al-Daein are investigated with the same rigour they demand of the other side; by the WHO and the UN mechanism, whether a documented chronology becomes a case file while the surgeons are still alive to testify; and by the states supplying both sides, whether a drone or an artillery sale carries a condition about hospitals that can be audited. §6 does not permit a proportionate war; it denies that battle is a place where the prohibition lapses. Whether el-Fasher's wards reopen under a protected status or remain a ruin that both sides cite against each other is not fixed by the war's momentum; it is a decision held by named commanders, named investigators and named suppliers, and one that a different choice could still make.

🌲 One Point Nine Million Hectares and Now the Protests — Indonesia's Haze Turns Political¶

Observed Cause

This entry is unchanged in its cause and changed in its politics, and the second change is the one that matters. Wildfires have burned some 1.9 million hectares across Indonesia since the start of the year, according to the open-access satellite platform Nusantara Atlas — an area roughly the size of New Jersey — with one million hectares thought to have burned in September alone. Smouldering forest, swamp and peatland have filled the air with microparticles and carbon monoxide, and the haze has blanketed Indonesia and drifted as far as Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines; by mid-October the health ministry had recorded more than 277,000 cases of chronic cough and acute respiratory infection, more than 62,000 of them in infants and children under five, in a season driven by a "Super El Niño" (BBC, citing Nusantara Atlas and the Indonesian health ministry).

What is new is that the fires have acquired a constituency. Protests in Indonesia are demanding action to stop the rainforest fires, and they have been spreading as anger over the fires and the haze mounts; the smoke, blamed on destructive agricultural practices, has sickened hundreds of thousands and blanketed neighbouring countries (NYT; The Star). In Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, the sky has turned yellow: a mother of three describes her baby's chest rattling at night and a hospitalisation for bronchopneumonia at six weeks old, the head of the city's health office says residents are breathing carbon dioxide and pollutants rather than oxygen, and the official advice to stay indoors is called unrealistic by the same mother, who still has to buy vegetables and school supplies. Haze and smoke from peat fires carry microparticles that can penetrate deep into the lungs and, in some cases, enter the bloodstream, causing inflammation, chronic lung disease and an increased risk of premature death (BBC). The regional context is a single ocean and a single atmosphere: Typhoon Champi, at its peak the strongest storm on the planet this year with sustained winds of 185mph, shut schools, offices and Taiwan's $5tn stock exchange on Friday and is Japan's thirtieth typhoon of 2026 — the first time since 2013 — while new peer-reviewed estimates put heat deaths in European cities this summer at around 50,000, the continent's deadliest this century (BBC; NYT).

A peat fire is a health event that outlives the fire — the direct effect is 277,000 respiratory cases in one season; the compound consequence is that particles small enough to enter the bloodstream produce chronic lung disease and premature death over decades, so the cohort of 62,000 children under five is having its lung capacity set now, and the health system will be paying for this dry season long after the rain returns

The haze is a foreign-policy problem ASEAN has no instrument for — the direct effect is diplomatic notes from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines; the compound consequence is that no enforcement mechanism exists because the fires are lit on land whose ownership is opaque, and the one dataset that would make enforcement possible — which company holds which concession — is the dataset that is not published

It is the choice — by Jakarta, whether the concession register is published and peat protection is enforced with prosecutions that name companies; by the provincial governments of Central Kalimantan and Riau, whether canals are blocked and peat is rewetted before the season rather than after it; by the plantation companies and their financiers, whether "no-burn" is a policy on paper or a condition of the loan; and by the protesters now in the streets, whether the demand is a mask or a title deed. §28 addresses the relationship directly and without comfort: the world has become dependent on its human masters and suffers under them, and the same hands that caused the suffering are the only ones that can end it. Whether next year's burning season is smaller because the peat was rewetted this year, or larger because the same land was cleared again, is not fixed by the El Niño; it is a decision held by named ministers, named governors and named companies, and one that a different choice could still make.

🤖 Thirty-Two Government Services Offline — the PHP Flaw Becomes an Administrative Event¶

Observed Cause

This entry began as a story about code and is now a story about a state's own systems, which is a different kind of fact. Organisations and businesses are still scrambling to update their systems after "critical vulnerabilities" were disclosed in PHP, the back-end programming language used for decades across a vast share of the web; websites were taken offline on Wednesday and Thursday, the UK government among those taking some sites down as a precaution. There have been no successful attacks reported so far, but experts say any impact may take time — even months — to become fully apparent (BBC, Tom Gerken and Liv McMahon). Downing Street said on Thursday that "some" limited government services "may be offline" while security work was carried out, and the tech minister, Baroness Lloyd of Effra, told the House of Lords: "The information I have is that 32 Government services are unavailable and four are partially unavailable," attributing this to "largely… precautionary measures taken to protect systems while security updates and mitigations are applied". The government did not specify which services were taken offline but said no large public-facing critical services had been affected, and a spokesperson said work had already taken place across government to "identify and fix potential exposures to our systems", with experts "working closely with both OpenAI and international partners" (BBC).

The officials' own language is the most informative part of the record. Olly Whitehouse, chief technology officer of the National Cyber Security Centre, called the event "unprecedented" and said "it will be universally felt, I suspect", while stating there were "no indications" of any successful breaches and that the NCSC was "starting to see positive confirmation" that its advice had been received and acted on. Cyber-security lecturer Rory Hopcraft said the government needed to make sure its own infrastructure was up to date: "The government are the ones who set the rules for other organisations… they just need to be effectively practising what they're preaching" (BBC). The residue is already visible at small scale: Dean Presley, who runs a garage in Chepstow, South Wales, told the BBC he had been unable to process MOTs online since Wednesday morning — "MOTs can be conducted and they're legal but none of the paperwork and certificates can be printed and they're not on the system" — forcing him to write everything on paper documents and delay customers. The original disclosure remains the widest-reaching: flaws found by AI, described by Wiz as the "most severe vulnerabilities ever discovered" by the technology, patched the same afternoon, with Finland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Wikimedia and BBC programme sites among those taken offline (BBC).

Thirty-two services down is a choice, and it is the right one — but it is also a disclosure — the direct effect is interrupted services and a backlog of MOTs, permits and filings; the compound consequence is that a state which takes its own portals offline rather than patch in time has told its citizens, in public, how deep its dependency runs and how thin its maintenance is — a durable loss of confidence that outlasts the vulnerability by years

It is the choice — by the foundations and companies that maintain shared code, whether the language under a third of the web is staffed and audited as a public utility or left to volunteers; by governments, whether a public-facing service carries a patch deadline with an audited inventory rather than an advisory; by the AI labs, whether discovery capability is released under a protocol that gives defenders a head start; and by every small organisation still running its own server, whether "temporarily down for maintenance" is a strategy or a warning it has not read. §12 is not a promise of punishment; it is a statement about how hidden things behave — a flaw, like a lie, is discovered in its own time, and the only variable is who discovers it first. Whether the next decade of the web is built on audited, funded foundations or on a stack of unowned code that an AI happens to find before a criminal does is not fixed by the technology; it is a decision held by named foundations, named agencies and named companies, and one that a different choice could still make.

🏔️ Seven Point Zero at Four Thousand Eight Hundred Metres — Tibet's Earthquake and the Cost of Cold¶

Observed Cause

A new entry, and it is the one case on this page where the immediate cause is not a human decision — which makes it the clearest test of what this framework does and does not claim. A magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Baqên County in the Nagqu region of Tibet on Thursday night, killing at least 16 people and injuring 65, 11 of them severely, according to Chinese state media and the local emergency management bureau. The county lies about 400km (250 miles) north-east of Lhasa; 339 homes have collapsed, the electricity supply was cut and by Friday morning power had been restored in some areas; more than 12,400 people have been relocated; rockfall has closed roads, making it harder for crews to reach high-altitude areas (BBC, citing Xinhua; NYT). The US Geological Survey recorded seven tremors near the epicentre, the largest at magnitude 5.2 and a depth of 10km — shallow quakes being more damaging than deep ones — and Chinese state media reported more than 400 aftershocks by Friday morning. Residents spent the night outdoors in subzero temperatures, in tents or cars, fearing aftershocks would trap them indoors: Nagqu resident Yixi Cuomu told Tibet Daily she fled barefoot, her "legs trembling uncontrollably" on the stairs, and another eyewitness said the shaking was so violent "that in that moment I felt as if several hundred yaks were running past us" (BBC).

The human cause is not the fault; it is everything built on top of it. The region's recent record is the relevant context: a 6.2-magnitude quake killed more than 120 people in the nearby mountainous Gansu province in 2023, and less than two months ago Tibet and Nepal were devastated by floods and landslides unleashed by a glacier collapse that killed at least 1,400 people, with hundreds still reported missing — while rescue teams on the Tibetan plateau are, despite the hardest conditions, highly experienced and have repeatedly shown an ability to mobilise quickly (BBC). The Chinese Communist Party's fifth plenum opens in Beijing on 26–29 October, with discipline and Xi Jinping's authority the reported themes as the next five-year plan is set (Reuters).

Projected Effect (if cause persists)

The first cause is geological and the second is structural, and only the second is a choice — a shallow 7.0 at 4,800m will kill people; the direct effect is 16 dead and 339 collapsed homes, and this page will not pretend the fault was a moral failure; the compound consequence is that the difference between 16 dead and 160 is decided by the building stock — masonry and timber roofs in a high-seismic zone — which is a code, an inspection regime and a subsidy, and every one of those is a decision taken years before the tremor

The hinge: The cause of the shaking is the fault, and no choice of ours moves it; the cause of the death toll is not. It is the choice — by the county and regional authorities, whether the rebuilt houses are built to a seismic standard and inspected; by the Ministry of Emergency Management, whether pre-positioning in high-altitude districts is funded before the event rather than mobilised after it; by the planners now assembling the next five-year plan, whether retrofitting rural housing is a line item or a slogan; and by the rescuers on the plateau, whether the 12,400 relocated are moved into serviced shelter or into tents that will not survive the first blizzard. §10 states the obligation without any metaphysics of fate: rescue those in misery in body, life, consciousness and psyche — a duty that begins the moment the ground stops moving and continues through the decade of rebuilding that follows. Whether the next quake in this belt kills sixteen or a hundred and sixty is not fixed by the fault line; it is a decision held by named officials, named planners and named builders, and one that a different choice could still make.

The Pattern¶

Look across these five stories. Though they span 800,000 Yemenis cut off from lifesaving aid and Taiz besieged, with a seven-week-old pair of twins in an Aden ward and a family that walked three days to get there; 43 documented attacks on hospitals in el-Fasher, 55 medics killed and 10 disappeared, with the UN human rights chief saying they may amount to war crimes; 1.9 million hectares burned in Indonesia, 277,000 respiratory cases and protests spreading as the haze reaches Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines; 32 UK government services offline and a garage in Chepstow writing MOT certificates by hand after AI found critical flaws in PHP; and a magnitude 7.0 quake at 4,800m in Tibet that killed 16, collapsed 339 homes and left 12,400 people relocated in subzero cold — the common structure is unmistakable.

In four of the five, the event described as news is the effect, and the cause is upstream, human and named: a decision, by the Houthis and by the government and Riyadh, to fight over the roads into Taiz rather than to keep them open; a decision, by an armed force, that a hospital is the cornerstone of a city and therefore a target; a decision, by landowners and by a state that will not publish who owns the land, that burning is cheaper than clearing; and the absence of a decision, by anyone, to fund the maintenance of the code under a third of the web. In the fifth — Tibet — the immediate cause is a fault and not a choice, which is why it belongs here: it is the control case. The earth moved on its own; everything that determined how many died when it stopped moving was built, permitted, funded and inspected by people.

Two of these five are accumulated effects of decisions taken long ago and only now counted: 43 attacks catalogued across eighteen months, and a flaw that sat in the foundation of the web through a decade of review that did not find it. Two were taken deliberately this week by people who knew what they were choosing: the encirclement of Taiz and the shutdown of thirty-two government services. One is a structural inheritance — the masonry and timber of a high-altitude county — that no one this week decided and everyone this week inherited.

In every case, the human cause is a choice — and therefore, the effect is changeable. Four of these five moved within twenty-four hours: Taiz went from contested to cut off, the el-Fasher chronology went from allegation to documented pattern, the PHP event went from a code advisory to thirty-two government services and a stopped MOT queue, and Tibet's toll went from unknown to sixteen with 400 aftershocks still counting. The one that has not moved is the one that would cost the most to move: a land register, a building code, a funded maintainer — the slow causes, which is precisely why they are the ones that must be decided early.

The environment thread is now unmistakably one system, and this page will not file it under three separate headings. The same Super El Niño that dried the Indonesian peat to the point of ignition produced Typhoon Champi — the strongest storm on the planet this year at 185mph sustained, Japan's thirtieth typhoon of 2026 and the first time since 2013 that the country has seen so many — which shut schools, offices and a $5tn stock exchange on Friday and injured 171 people in Taiwan. The same ocean anomaly coincides with peer-reviewed estimates that heat killed around 50,000 people in European cities this summer, the continent's deadliest this century. Three continents, one season, one signature. The attribution argument that protects a concession holder in Riau is the same argument that delays a heat-mortality register in Madrid: weather is the multiplier, and the decision is always the one made before the weather.

The two wars on this page are converging on the same target, and it is not a military one. Yemen's toll is now counted in malnutrition and cut roads rather than in airport dead; Sudan's is counted in darkened operating theatres and 55 dead medics. Both are campaigns against the systems that keep a population alive where it stands — the market, the ward, the road — and both produce the same evidentiary problem: the dead are not counted as war dead, because the cause of death is written down as infection, exposure or hunger. That is not an accident of accounting. It is what makes a siege a weapon that can be denied.
